Are you aware that the Centre for Effective Altruism provides funding for EA university groups? More info here: https://resources.eagroups.org/how-to-get-funding
The Middlebury Effective Altruism (EA) Club is dedicated to fostering a strong community of students committed to maximizing positive impact through effective altruism principles. We aim to engage students in high-impact activities, including workshops, reading groups, retreats, and conferences, to expand their understanding of global challenges and effective solutions.
Our primary goal is to strengthen the EA community at Middlebury College by increasing student engagement and participation in EA activities. We plan to achieve this by organizing a series of events, including workshops on key EA topics, reading groups to deepen understanding, and retreats to build a cohesive and motivated community. Additionally, we will facilitate trips to major EA conferences to connect our members with broader networks and ideas.
The funding will be used to cover costs associated with organizing and hosting events, including materials, guest speaker fees, and logistical expenses for retreats and conference trips. A portion of the funds will also be allocated to marketing efforts to attract new members and raise awareness of EA principles on campus.

Our team consists of dedicated Middlebury students who are passionate about effective altruism. As the founder and leader of the Middlebury EA group, I have successfully organized workshops, reading groups, and retreats over the past two years, significantly increasing EA engagement on campus. Our team also includes members with experience in event planning, marketing, and outreach, ensuring the successful execution of our goals.
If the project fails, the most likely causes would be a lack of student engagement or unforeseen logistical challenges in organizing events. The outcomes of failure could include a diminished presence of EA on campus and missed opportunities to connect students with the broader EA community. However, we are committed to mitigating these risks through proactive planning and strong communication within our team.
We are currently exploring additional funding opportunities from Middlebury College's student organizations fund and potential sponsorships from local businesses. However, we have not yet secured alternative funding, making this grant crucial to the success of our project.

To follow up on this, did CEA deny a funding application, or is there a reason your group needs more funding than CEA would provide?

@adk @Jason Thank you both for your comments. I am aware of the CEA grant, and am in the process of applying for it, but have in the past found it to fluctuate often. Hence I considered diversifying for stability, but I can see the opportunity cost (AKA where this pool would otherwise go to). I appreciate any thoughts on the matter.
