What: I am writing an in-depth article about the growing risks of mass biometric surveillance in the age of AI for a global nonprofit, the Open Ethics Initiative. The article will be about 2000-2500 words. I am requesting a minimal stipend to cover some of my time spent collaborating, researching, writing, and editing the article.

Who: The audience is the civic-minded, organizations interested in improving the transparency of surveillance infrastructure, and the general public.

Why: This is a vital topic to educate individuals and organizations about, especially within the current AI race and geopolitical climate.

What are this project's goals? How will you achieve them?

Improve people's understanding of the impact of mass biometric surveillance, covering concepts such as:

• public safety vs. mass surveillance

• capacity for consent

• the chilling effect

• power imbalances

• democratic erosion

• participatory surveillance
  

How will this funding be used?

To cover part of my time spent on this article. There is no additional funding source.

I will publish the article via Open Ethics. However, a small stipend towards my hours would be helpful and appreciated. 😊
