Funding update
EA Philippines' current funding as of August 7, 2025:
From the total received funding of $51,772.24, EA Philippines has spent ~USD33,500 allocated between salaries (80%) and operational costs (20%).
This leaves us with approximately USD18,700 in remaining funding that we intend to allocated towards the rest of 2025. You can view our EA Philippines 2025 Q3 and Q4 Plans here.
What progress have you made since your last update?
Hired Sunta Cadiz. Last year, we onboarded Sunta Cadiz as our community building associate, who provides support in tasks including administrative and operational management, chapter advising, events and programs management, external relations, and other ad hoc tasks. Sunta is also currently co-organizing the EA Summit: Philippines, happening on September 27!
We launched a Mini Library. Last year, we launched a book borrowing initiative to help promote learning about EA and EA-adjacent topics. We've lent out 17 books at this point in time.
We hosted a 2025 Kick-Off Event. This was a chance for community members to reflect on their their previous year, brainstorm, soundboard, and build out their plans for the upcoming year.
There were 20 total attendees who gave an average rating of 4.5/5 for how helping the program was in helping them clarify their plans for the upcoming year. This was a seven-week hybrid program run from May to June 2025, designed to deepen participants' understanding of Effective Altruism (EA) through structured discussions and a capstone project centered on building their own Theory of Change for doing good.
With a small cohort of eight fellows, the program achieved high satisfaction and engagement, with 87.5% refining their Personal Theory of Change, 50% showing at least a 30% increase in EA understanding or clarity, and an average satisfaction score of 4.9/5. You can see the full report here.We hosted a Community builders workshop. This was a 2-day activity that took place from May 31 to June 1, with a total of 19 attendees from various EA university chapters and aligned groups. The workshop was designed to equip participants with practical tools and frameworks to build stronger, more sustainable, and values-aligned EA communities in the Philippines.
100% of participants would recommend this event to friends with similar interests, with an average recommendation score of 4.9/5. You can see our full report here.We hosted a "Paths to Impact" talk. At our March 2025 Komunidad, four speakers shared how they found careers that align with their values and create meaningful change. From public health and animal welfare to biodiversity and research, each journey was unique—shaped by reflection, trial and error, and a commitment to doing good more effectively.
There were 19 total attendees with an average recommendation score of 4.7/5.We hosted a Founding a High Impact Non-Profit Talk. In June 2025, EA Philippines showcased Rika Gabriel, who's talk covered challenges that early-stage high-impact charities face, the current landscape of founding charities, and other advice for those aspiring to start a charity. The next part of the event were talks led by Scale Welfare and Lead Acid Battery Recycling Initiative who covered their respective career progressions, considerations, and their work that goes into founding a high impact charity.
There were 26 attendees with an average recommendation score of 4.5/5.
