@Ali-K
I am a Master’s student in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology conducting research on antimicrobial resistance in wastewater systems in Kampala, Uganda. My work focuses on investigating how waste released from slaughterhouses may spread drug-resistant bacteria into community water channels, using modern laboratory and genome sequencing techniques. Through this research, I aim to generate evidence that can support safer waste management, protect public health and strengthen antimicrobial resistance surveillance in Uganda. My study combines environmental science, microbiology and public health to address a growing global health challenge at the community level.

I am passionate about applying Molecular Biology to real public health and environmental challenges affecting communities in Uganda. My current research focuses on investigating how slaughterhouse wastewater may contribute to the spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria into urban water systems in Kampala, using modern genomic and microbiological approaches. I am particularly interested in strengthening environmental surveillance in low-resource settings and generating locally relevant scientific evidence that can support safer waste management, disease prevention and public health decision-making. Through this work, I hope to contribute to the growing role of African researchers in addressing global health challenges using locally led science and innovation.
