Project summary

-The project mainly involves creating biomass gasifier that can easily use waste from farms that has been dried, saw dust and rice husks to provide gas for cooking purposes.

-The rural population in Kenya, usually use firewood to cook their own food. The firewood is mainly gotten from forests. This is a major cause of deforestation in Kenya.

-Firewood also affects peoples health by inhaling the smoke from them.

-Most rural areas in Kenya have access to saw dust, biomass and rice husks in Kenya. By creating this biomass gasifiers we will be not only providing a clean source of energy for household purposes but we will also assist in reducing deforestation.

What are this project's goals? How will you achieve them?

The main project goals are:

  1. Create a biomass gasifier MVP since I have already created a prototype for this.

  2. Carry out a pilot where we will give several cookstoves to people for free

  3. Get feedback on the workability of the gasifier before we go on to massive production.

How will this funding be used?

The funding will be used to create a minimal viable product, carry out a pilot. purchase the machines needed to carry create the gasifier, create training materials needed to be used to the women. When the pilot becomes a success and the product is good to the people. We will use the remainder of the funds to launch the product to the market slowly.

  1. 13000 USD- MVP and cookstoves for the pilot

  2. Pellet machine for sawdust- 1000USD

  3. Training materials and evaluation of the pilot -1000 USD

Who is on your team? What's your track record on similar projects?

I am currently operating this work alone. Previous knowledge in regards to a similar project, I do have. I managed to create eco friendly gardening systems in Kenya, where I had the first mover advantage in this area. I have managed to successfully launch the product to the masses and are actively being used

What are the most likely causes and outcomes if this project fails?

The most likely cause is if we don't get enough funds to create the MVP and pilot the product. If the project fails, I will need to get back to the drawing board with the response I will have gotten from the users and use that Information to create something better.

How much money have you raised in the last 12 months, and from where?

200 USD from bootstrapping. It was used to create the prototype.
