I’m Felix, an aquaculture specialist and founder of iCareFish, a project improving fish welfare in underserved aquaculture communities across Nigeria. I work directly with smallholder farmers in river-linked clusters, providing practical training to reduce fish mortality, improve water conditions, and promote humane handling practices.
Our work is evidence-based and community-driven — we’ve trained over 60 farmers and are building scalable, low-cost models to integrate welfare into everyday aquaculture. By linking better fish welfare to biodiversity, food security, and farmer income, we create tangible incentives for change.
I’m deeply committed to effective altruism and aim to reduce preventable suffering in a neglected area of animal welfare: aquatic animals in LMICs. My approach combines field engagement, scientific insight, and long-term systems thinking. I’m currently conducting research on welfare-linked nutritional interventions in catfish farming and plan to publish open-access resources for practitioners.
I’m looking to collaborate with donors, researchers, and organizations who believe in the power of ethical food systems. Support from Manifund could help us scale to more communities, develop low-cost welfare assessment tools, and build policy engagement for long-term change.
